Coleman Eagle Elk

Lead Professional Mentor “Relative”, Rapid City

Roger “Coleman” Eagle Elk, Mato Wanbli (Eagle Bear) is Rosebud Sicangu and Osage, Wahzhazhe of Oklahoma. Currently he resides in Rapid City, SD where he advocates for Lakota lifeways and implementation of Lakota culture into equine one on one therapy sessions with families and individuals. Coleman has assisted cultural interventions and equine therapy serving youth ages five to eighteen, and those who suffer from physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual trauma. Coleman utilizes Lakota values, assists relatives and community in working through trauma, by developing healthy coping skills including the use of traditional song and dance as a regulation tool.

Coleman is a Men’s Northern Plains Traditional dancer and singer for over 30 plus years and has been a champion dancer for most of his life. Mr. Eagle Elk has mentored youth and adults in the area of cultural song, dance, language and cultural ceremonies for over 15 years. Mr. Eagle Elk strives daily to not only make impact but to also install the Lakota culture to Indigenous youth.
